My grandma always said…
“One of the best gifts you can give your child is to teach them to share and tithe…starting with their own family!
That’s why my 4 kids all share a room. Boys in the same room…girls in the same room. Even mom and dad share a room!
It’s important for kids to learn how to share and be givers in order to be able to relate to others and truly be happy like adults.
What better way to share learning than with your siblings? They also share certain toys – again – to learn the importance of sharing.
Doesn’t your heart warm when someone shares something special with you? It can be chocolate (my favorite!), homemade pie, a compliment, or just a smile.
But it’s hard to teach kids the importance of tithing.
Even more challenging for toddlers!
Here are 3 fun games to help your child understand the meaning of tithing:
1. Compete to give
Collect 10 items (candy, marbles, small toys, etc.) and place them at one end of the room.
Place a pad with 10 points for each item.
Now have your child race to put all 10 items on the mat.
Then ask them which of the 10 items they would like to give back to Jesus as a thank you for all their good luck.
This teaches them to give back (one tenth) 10% of their blessings.
2. Count your blessing coins
Count out 10 different coins for your child to look at.
And be sure to tell them which president or important person is on each coin!
Then ask them to choose a blessing coin that they think Jesus would like.
Now explain that they just gave a tithe to God!
3. Shopping sharing
Play a shopping game with virtual money, your child goes to the store to buy 10 items.
Then ask them which one they will share with Jesus.
Happy tithing!
